Doris Day was one of the first artists to do a remake of the song. Pat Suzuki was the original singer when the show was first out on Broadway. Many of the younger generation will remember the song from the Gap ad staring Sarah Jessica Parker.

I have some ideas, but they're more like songs about being a child or being young. Ever heard "Mermaid Smiled" by XTC? I'm not sure, but I think a mermaid comes out of a magic mirror and turns him into a child. "I was lucky to remain beguiled / Grown to child since mermaid smiled."

Thought of another one -- "Show Me" by the Pretenders. By the lyrics, I think it's a song that's being sung to a baby who's just come into this world. "Welcome here from outer space, the Milky Way still in your eyes." And it kinda apologizes for how terrible the world is, too ...

Yay I'll look them up! The song "I kissed a girl" is really only a song about two girls kissing. I love that song and I'm a lesbian myself but you can be gay or straight and still be feminine, so I'm not sure that relates. Thanks for these suggestions though! Sorry for the delay in replying!
