I Want to Chat (fixed)

Okay maybe I'm being a drama queen, but I keep thinking about that old black and white movie where the leading lady moans "I want to live..."

I keep trying to chat, but I get bumped out and I don't know what I am doing wrong.
Here's the symptoms for any computer diagnostic type persons out there:

I will be typing and all of a sudden the screen goes white and then I see

goodbye...

and then it's like I'm in the twilight zone, I can't get back in cause it tells me duplicate logins are not allowed (a totally reasonable policy) and I can't log out, I end up having to close the tab completely and usually disconnect from the web and then get back on.

I took my computer to the shop, and they talked about scripts and applets and now I understand MEGO ^^ but I still don't know what I am doing wrong. And,*snff* my friends need me and, *sniff, sniff, sigh* I needs them.

Any suggestions? or should I just go play in the mud with a stick, cause electronic stuff has always hated me...

Hi Loridsisi! Yes I would love to help! Can you let me know the kind of computer your using (Windows XP, MAC, Linux, etc.) and Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) you are using? You might want to check if there are any programs running in the background that might be interfering with the chat.

I ddn't get to visist SK as much as I wanted this week.

Okay I am using Windows Vista :( Home Premium Edition and Internet Explorer, I have Firefox, but only use it when IE doesn't respond. I don't ever have other programs running, that I know of, when I am online; I do have Spysweeper and Trend Anti-virus which I guess are always on. I don't know if Vista has firewalls or something, I know I have the icon, so I assume it does, but I'm scared to open folders or programs that I don't know anything about.

One other thing that I wondered about is that I use Cricket 3G Broadband, I guess that could play a role, but I'm only about 200 feet from the closest tower and no one else that I know seems to have any problem with it.

So I am totally open to suggestions, my computer is in your hands.

I don't have the problem in chat, at least I don't think I do, but in the middle of the afternoon, the site will timeout, which means I have to log back in and start all over. I do get a white screen (too bad it is not pink - my favorite) when this happens.

I would recommend the user checks they have the lastest version of java installed on their computers first of all from www.java.com, then clear their browsers cache (history) - these steps will make sure everything is up to date java wise and their issue isnt caused by cache instability.

If the issue persists once the above is done, I would then recommend using firefox for the chat session and see if the same happens with a different browser - if it does then I would look at the firewall settings to check this is not inteferring with access to the chat room which is causing the connection to drop - they could temp disable any firewalls and try it to see if it makes a difference which would then pinpoint a firewall issue. If all this fails and there is no other software or applications running on their computer which could cause issues, then the next logical step would be to look at the Internet Service Provider to see if there is anything they could be doing which is dropping their connecting.

From what they described with the java application freezing its more then likely an issue with java itself - either an out of date version, cache issue, or browser problem.

We had some timeout issues with the site a couple days ago but we got it all fixed now. So if it keeps happening feel free to let me know.

I will try these things, I did get java updates last month, but it seemed like it didn't want to download, so maybe I didn't.
I didn't think about junk accumalating in the browser cache. It probably looks like my second closet, or worse, under the bed, eeeekk!
