You want to transition because you feel who you are on the outside is not who you are inside, it has nothing to do with other people's perceptions, and just dressing or looking somewhat feminine will not satisfy you as you still see the same person in the mirror ie incomplete.
as for sex life, well i can't speak from greater knowledge, but from reading on the subject, your penis may or may not still function as normal in that respect (ie get an erection), that's on a person to person basis. Same as having a Sex Change can totally ruin any feeling down there for some or may enhance it in other people, unfortunately no way to be completely sure.
and lastly for kids, well there's always the option of freezing sperm and using invertro fertilization when you are both ready to be parents.
You definitely need to talk it over with her some more to make her better understand your side. Make sure she knows you need to feel like you're complete.
