"The Colors In Your Heart"

The candle's flame warms the window sill beside me
Patiently scribbling away with crayons in mommy's lap
Feeling her brush glide beneath my amber hair silently
Who knows what dreams she found hiding in each strand

Then mommy said to me, Rosemary...
I love how you colored the little mermaid
You know you've always been so creative
Ever since the first grade
I hope you never change...
The colors in your heart

Outside winter's frosty kisses could be felt by all
Paused to giggle as two dogs pulled their owners home
While falling snow flakes illuminated by rainbows of bulbs
Brightened up the streets filled with faces of children all aglow

And slowly down I crawled
Pacifier dangling from my satin dress
Calling for my teddy bear to play
When mommy kissed my cheek and gave her to me...
"Ariel" was her name

Who do you see, sweetie?
Mommy asked and smiled sweetly
She held the teddy right in front of me
And I felt that familiar sense of security

I see pretty, mommy...
Just like the colors in your heart!

Sweetie, that was such a beautiful poem, capturing a moment in time that makes life all so worthwhile. You have that rare ability to see the little things that make us feel, warm and what life should be.

I felt so happy when I wrote this and it seems all those wonderful emotions

Jennifer, Just read this one and I agree with Ryobaby that the imagery and detail are lovely. It seems especially appropriate with winter coming down here.
